Shillong: The cow protection group, led by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, has announced its intention to file a petition with the Supreme Court after being denied permission to enter Meghalaya.
The cow protection group has decided to postpone its planned visit to Meghalaya to hold a “Gau Dhwaj Yatra” after being denied permission to land at Umroi Airport to proceed to Shillong.
The group was planning to hold the rally in Shillong advocating for cow protection and a cow-slaughter-free India.
However, they were stopped from boarding a flight to Umroi at Agartala Airport and were forced to take a flight to Guwahati instead.
Shankaracharya hoisted the Gau Pratishtha flag over Meghalaya airspace, reports claimed.
“We demand a written explanation. On what grounds are they preventing Shankaracharya from entering? Provide a clear reason for denying us entry. Only the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation have the authority to do this. Neither the Shillong nor Agartala airport is authorized to make such a decision. We will file a legal case in the Supreme Court. These actions are illegal,” the coordinator of the group said.
Following this, the group claimed that it would move the Supreme Court against the Meghalaya government and Airports Authority of India’s decision.
The group claimed that the incident was an unauthorized denial of permission.
As per reports, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has beenclamped by the Ri Bhoi district magistrate to prevent the group, who had not sought permission, from holding the rally.
The District Commissioner expressed concerns that the rally could disturb the peace and order of the district. As a result, any public march, procession, or rally that poses a threat to public tranquility has been banned.
Notably, the Gau Dhwaj Yatra was scheduled to take place in Shillong on October 2.
Several organizations and political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya, have opposed the proposed rally in the state.

Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Alexander Laloo Hek urged the authorities to deny permission for the event, citing the possibility of unrest. “These groups will create unnecessary misunderstanding among the locals,” Hek said.
