Shillong: Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district is set to receive a more reliable power supply with the construction of a new 132KV substation.
Sanjay Goyal, Commissioner and Secretary in charge of the Power Department, said that the construction of the 132KV substation will commence soon to fix the current reliability issues.
Goyal explained that the district’s power problems are not due to a shortage of electricity, but rather the long 40 km transmission line that runs from Umiam to Nongpoh. The new substation will address this issue, ensuring a more stable supply.
“We have sanctioned the 132KV substation, which will lead to a highly reliable power supply in the district after a long gap,” Goyal said, thanking the Chief Minister for approving the project.
Goyal also addressed the ongoing challenge of collecting energy bills from consumers. He noted that while collection efficiency has improved, the department is actively working to enhance it further. To make payments easier, the department has introduced various online platforms, including Google Pay.
He urged consumers to pay bills regularly, stating that timely payments are crucial for maintaining an efficient power supply. He added that the department plans to incentivize consumers who pay bills on time through online modes.
