SHILLONG: Congress candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat and incumbent MP, Vincent H. Pala has been declared the eight richest MP contender nationwide to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Pala’s declared assets stand at over Rs 125 crore (₹1,25,81,59,331 crore), a recent report by Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) said, on Monday.
The breakdown of Pala’s assets reveals a significant holding of movable assets amounting to over ₹2,51,59,331 crores, complemented by immovable assets totalling ₹1,23,30,00,000 crores.
Pala, a four-time MP from the Congress party, secured his first Lok Sabha victory in 2009.
Prior to his political career, he served as the Assistant Chief Engineer in the Public Works Department of the Government of Meghalaya, spanning from 2000 to 2008.
On the flip side, Agatha Sangma, leader of the National People’s Party (NPP) and the incumbent MP representing the Tura Lok Sabha constituency, boasts immovable assets, encompassing bank accounts, vehicles, and gold, with a combined value of Rs 52,78,453.
Moreover, her ownership extends to land and houses estimated at Rs 2,87,17,525.
According to the latest data released by ADR, the title of the wealthiest candidate goes to Nakul Nath, the son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath.
Contesting from Chhindwara, Nakul has declared assets worth a staggering Rs 716 crore.
Following closely behind, AIADMK’s Ashok Kumar from Erode, Tamil Nadu, secures the second position with assets valued at Rs 662 crore.
Dhevanathan Yadav T of the BJP, contesting from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, clinches the third spot with assets worth Rs 304 crore.
The rankings unveil the financial prowess of the candidates vying for parliamentary seats across the country.
