SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala has exuded confidence of the resurgence of the party in the Northeastern state.
Pala, a former three-time Lok Sabha MP, said the political landscape in Meghalaya could change significantly before the 2028 Assembly polls.
He noted that the recent electoral victory of the State Congress in the Tura Lok Sabha constituency has boosted the party’s strength.
“The Assembly elections in the state are still a long way off. Nothing is certain. The NPP may rectify their course, and the VPP might stumble. It’s too early to make predictions,” Pala said, speaking on the current political scenario in Meghalaya.
He said the Congress party has always followed the same ideology and is backed by a dedicated team.
“I won’t elaborate much, but election outcomes are unpredictable. Politics is dynamic and more complex than it appears,” said the Meghalaya Congress chief.
Pala observed that while the VPP is currently enjoying a high, the NPP and the UDP are facing increasing anti-incumbency sentiments, and the TMC is struggling for survival.
Regarding speculations about former Congress leaders rejoining the party, Pala dismissed them as rumors.
“I don’t think so. There has been no communication from any end, not even Dr. Mukul Sangma,” he said.
