Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday visited several localities in Tura in a bid to review the situation following recent incidents of unrest and damage to property in the town.
During his visit, the chief minister interacted with residents, community representatives and officials while assessing the steps being taken to restore normalcy in affected areas.
He also inspected areas where shops and structures were damaged and assured that the government would take necessary steps to support affected individuals and businesses.
At the same time, residents across Tura launched large-scale voluntary clean-up drives in different neighbourhoods. Local people, youth groups and community organisations joined hands to clear debris, burnt materials and other remnants left behind after the disturbances.
The clean-up activities were carried out in several market areas and along major roads, with volunteers using tools and vehicles to remove damaged materials and restore the surroundings. Residents said the initiative reflected the community’s determination to rebuild the town and return to normal life as soon as possible.
