SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for the development of the New Shillong City project.
During his meeting with PM Modi in New Delhi on Monday, the chief minister also discussed various developmental projects of the state.
“We have sought financial aid of Rs 1,000 crore for the ambitious New Shillong City project,” Sangma said.
The Chief Minister also had discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding various pending projects for the development of the state.
Further, Chief Minister Sangma met Minister of Food Processing Chirag Paswan, to discuss expanding the food processing industry sector in Meghalaya.
These discussions are part of a broader strategy to enhance economic development and create new opportunities in the state.
The state government has planned to utilize nearly 25 acres of land to enhance the aesthetics and diverse culture of the state and alleviate traffic congestion in Shillong.
The move is also aimed at giving a boost to the education and tourism sectors in the Northeast region.
Earlier, CM Sangma had said that the state government has identified a staggering 25 acres, which will be used to beautify the city by creating new walkways, a green park, and museums, amongst other projects.
