Meghalaya CM lays foundation for Shillong Ropeway Project
On Wednesday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma officially launched the foundation of the Shillong Ropeway Project at Shillong Peak. The state’s first-ever passenger ropeway, which is set to cost Rs 175 crore, will offer a breathtaking panoramic view of Shillong City.
The construction, initially scheduled to begin in November, will connect Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak. The foundation stone for the project was first laid by President Droupadi Murmu on January 16 of this year.
CM connect initiative strengthens governance in Nongstoin
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma continued his commitment to responsive governance with the CM Connect outreach program in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. During this event, he directly engaged with the public, addressing critical local issues and reaffirming the government’s dedication to addressing citizens’ concerns.
As part of a series of block-level initiatives, the CM Connect program aims to bring governance closer to the people by creating an interactive platform for open, two-way communication. The event was attended by heads of various departments, community leaders, and village representatives from the Nongstoin Block.
During the session, citizens raised issues related to infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, and rural development. The chief minister reassured the public of the government’s proactive approach to resolving these concerns. He highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade healthcare facilities across the state, including plans to improve the Nongstoin Civil Hospital, and announced that infrastructure grants would be extended to nonprofit organizations working to improve healthcare services in remote areas.
Addressing calls for better roads and bridges, Sangma confirmed that road projects would be launched under the CM Rural Connect Program to improve connectivity in rural areas. He emphasized the government’s commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps as part of a broader strategy for inclusive development.
Sangma also underscored the state’s substantial investments in sports, with over Rs 1,000 crore allocated to building and upgrading sports infrastructure across Meghalaya. He reiterated the government’s determination to ensure that rural communities benefit from these developments, nurturing talent and creating opportunities at the grassroots level.
