Shillong: In a bid to provide financial grants to filmmakers, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently launched the ‘Guidelines of Film Grant Booklet’ during the Hello Meghalaya Conclave held in Shillong.
This initiative will provide financial support to filmmakers for projects that have gained national or international recognition.
The state government has created a corpus fund to provide financial assistance to filmmakers and in order to regulate this fund, the ‘Guidelines of Film Grant Booklet’ was launched.
During the event, the Chief Minister also handed over sanction letters to filmmakers in the categories of feature films, short films, and web series.
As part of the initiative, financial grants of Rs 35 lakh each were awarded to filmmakers Dominic Sangma, Pradip Kurbah, and Simi Khongtiang.
The Meghalaya government also launched “Hello Meghalaya,” a new OTT platform designed to highlight the state’s rich cultural tapestry, breathtaking natural beauty, and compelling narratives.
The platform will help promote the state’s vibrant culture and stunning landscapes to a larger audience. Under the Hello Meghalaya OTT platform, the government will provide support to different content creators of the state.
“We did not know what would be the reaction or response of the content creators and also the public at large. But in the last few months, six months or so, we have been able to push this to the next level. We’re very happy with the kind of response we’re getting. We expect more things to happen in the future,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.
“It’s not about just one platform or one award. It’s about the larger picture of what we are trying to do. This is for the young people,” he added.
