Tura: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the new office building of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) at Dakopgre in Tura, West Garo Hills, marking a major step towards decentralising public service recruitment in the state.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said the new MPSC office will be a great relief for candidates from the Garo Hills, who earlier had to travel “10 to 15 hours overnight to Shillong” to appear for examinations and interviews.
“Many would arrive tired and go straight to the exam hall without rest. With this new facility, students can now give their exams and interviews right here in Tura,” Sangma said.
He noted that the challenges of long travel and lack of rest had often affected candidates’ performance and described the inauguration as one of the most meaningful milestones for youth in the region.
Sangma announced that the first MPSC examination in Tura will be held on November 14, 2025, calling it a new chapter in making public service recruitment more inclusive and accessible.
He also revealed plans to establish similar facilities in the Jaintia Hills to ensure equal opportunities for aspirants across Meghalaya.

Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, who attended the inauguration, termed the occasion a landmark moment that “heralds a new chapter in the journey of transparent, accountable, and people-centric governance.”
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Vibhor Aggarwal, Chairman of MPSC Abraham T. Momin, and officials from various government departments.
The new MPSC office will conduct examinations, interviews, and related recruitment activities locally, easing travel burdens for candidates and improving access to government employment opportunities in the Garo Hills region.
