Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Dalu Government Higher Secondary School building in West Garo Hills, marking a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to educational development.
The two-storey school building, developed under the state government’s Mission Education Phase I initiative launched in 2021, was officially opened in the presence of Ministers A.T. Mondal and Marcuise Marak, alongside MLAs Sanjay Sangma, Brening A. Sangma, and Sengchim Sangma.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma emphasised the government’s holistic approach to youth development, focusing on education, sports, music, and entrepreneurship.
He underscored the government’s commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure, citing the renovation and construction of government primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in recent years.
“Captain Williamson Sangma State University, the first state university, stands as a testament to our dedication to prioritising the education sector,” Sangma stated.
Highlighting the government’s investment of nearly Rs. 3,000 crore in education, sports, and entrepreneurship through various initiatives like CM Elevate and PRIME, the chief minister called for harnessing the potential of Meghalaya’s youth.
“We are building robust sports infrastructure across the state as we prepare for the National Games, which we are proud to host. Plans are underway to support and finance sportspersons, and we will be meeting with sports associations next week to discuss interventions,” Sangma added, affirming the state’s readiness to host the prestigious event.
The chief minister also pointed to strides in technology-enabled learning, smart classrooms, and programs like MGMP and PRIME that provide opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs, reinforcing the state’s strategic focus on youth empowerment.
