Shillong: In a continued push to strengthen Meghalaya’s healthcare system, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma handed over a financial grant of Rs. 1 crore to Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, reaffirming the government’s support for non-profit healthcare institutions that serve the underprivileged and marginalised communities across the state.

Speaking at the event, the chief minister emphasised the government’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure despite ongoing challenges.

“Meghalaya currently has the highest budgetary allocation for health among all Indian states, and a significant portion is being utilised to enhance infrastructure and services,” Sangma stated.

He highlighted the government’s collaborative approach with private and mission-run hospitals under the Meghalaya Health Advancement Policy, aiming to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare.

“Our goals are aligned—to deliver efficient and compassionate medical care. By partnering with institutions like Nazareth Hospital, we move closer to that vision,” he added.

The chief minister also encouraged greater inter-hospital communication and collaboration, noting that such coordination would enhance patient outcomes and professional synergy within the healthcare community.

Receiving the grant, Sr Noreen, Administrator of Nazareth Hospital, expressed her gratitude to the state government and outlined key areas where the funds will be directed.
