Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday (August 14) inaugurated ‘Lynti Sur Bathiang’ at Khyndai Lad, a curated musical street designed to celebrate and showcase the state’s rich musical heritage.
CM Sangma stated that the state government plans to beautify Khyndai Lad and other areas to provide opportunities for youth to showcase their talents through initiatives like the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) platform.
Accompanied by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh and other officials, the Chief Minister took a short walk along the newly beautified pathway.
The inauguration event showcased power-packed performances by local artistes and bands, including Da-La-Riti, Advaya and Six Frets.
The launch is the first step in an ambitious plan to develop the street into a people-centric public space blending urban planning, cultural policy, and tourism.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, while inaugurating the event, shared his vision to create numerous musical streets throughout the state. “This is something that will go a long, long way in creating the right environment in this area, which will ultimately benefit the people, the citizens, and the business and trade that takes place in this particular zone,” he said.
The Chief Minister announced that the area’s current temporary beautification is just the beginning. The government plans a complete redesign, which will include upgraded footpaths, decorative lighting, benches, and the addition of coffee shops and performance corners.
This overhaul is designed to encourage pedestrian movement and foster cultural engagement in the city.
