Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma honoured at CBCI National Awards 2026

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has been honoured by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI National Awards 2026, held at St John’s Medical College in Bengaluru.

The award recognises distinguished Catholics for their contributions to mission, faith, education, social service, innovation, leadership and nation-building. Sangma described the recognition as a humbling moment and expressed gratitude for what he termed the role of faith and divine guidance in his public life.

In a message shared after receiving the honour, the chief minister said he accepted the award with deep humility, acknowledging that his work was guided by grace, wisdom and courage beyond human effort.

Immensely humbled and grateful to be honoured by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI National Awards 2026, held at St John’s Medical College, Bengaluru.

He also reflected on the continuing journey of service, stating that there was still much to be done, but faith and purpose remained central to that path.

Sangma thanked the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India for the recognition and its commitment to social and national development.

He also expressed appreciation to senior church leaders, including Cardinal Poola Anthony, Metropolitan Archbishop of Hyderabad and President of the CBCI; Most Reverend Andrews Thazhath, Metropolitan Archbishop of Thrissur and outgoing CBCI president; Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao; Mar Baselios Cardinal Cleemis; George Cardinal Koovakad; and Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil, for their encouragement and support.

The CBCI National Awards are presented annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to society and the nation through service, leadership and commitment to faith-based values.
