Tura: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the Chenanggre Stadium at Adokgre in North Garo Hills in presence of deputy speaker Timothy D Shira and MLAs Marcuise Marak, Rupert Momin and Marthon Sangma.

Inaugurating the stadium in honour of his late father Purno Agitok Sangma, Conrad K Sangma said his father had great admiration for Adokgre and the people of the region.

The stadium has been constructed at the cost of Rs 17.28 crore.

The Meghalaya CM said the stadium is part of the vision late Purno had for the people. He informed the gathering that the government has embarked upon various initiatives to ensure that development reaches different nook and corner of the state.

Conrad K Sangma told the gathering that the government will continue to take up development initiatives in North Garo Hills for the common good of the people.

The name of the stadium has been derived from the word coined during late Purno’s election rallies at Adokgre. He had named Adokgre as Chenanggre, which means land of victory.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday also inaugurated the Hamilton Stadium at Bakenang Nalsa Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills in presence of Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira, MLAs Pongseng Marak, Marcuise Marak, Marthon Sangma and other dignitaries.

The stadium has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3.01 crore. Dedicating the stadium to the people of Bajendoba, the chief minister said the government has envisioned to provide better sports facilities to the youth.

He also told that additional funds will be sanctioned for expansion of the stadium.
