SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condemned the death of three Assam residents in the Rongmil area of East Garo Hills.
In a heartfelt public letter addressed to the people of Meghalaya and Assam on Tuesday, Chief Minister Sangma expressed profound grief, denouncing the violent incident as a grave violation of shared humanity.
“Such acts of violence stand as a grave violation of our shared humanity,” wrote Chief Minister Sangma, assuring swift action and an aggressive investigation by authorities.
“Rest assured; every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. However, it’s equally crucial that we uphold the principles of peace, justice, and the rule of law as pillars of our society,” the message read.

Amidst growing tensions, Chief Minister Sangma appealed to the people of Assam and Meghalaya to refrain from resorting to vigilantism or any form of retaliation.
“Let us not allow the seeds of discord and animosity to take root in our hearts,” he emphasised in his public message.
Previously, the bodies of three residents of Assam’s Goalpara, recovered by East Garo Hills (EGH) police from a dense jungle in the district on April 18, were handed over to their families in Dolgoma village in Assam.
Identified as Jamor Ali (35), Noor Ahmed, and Zahidul Islam (25), the deceased youth were known for their involvement in criminal activities, particularly car lifting and cattle theft across Assam.
The discovery of the charred bodies sent shockwaves through the region, prompting calls for justice and heightened vigilance against such heinous acts of violence.
Earlier on Monday, a large gathering in Wageasi, North Garo Hills, united to condemn the brutal murder of three youths under Rongjeng PS in East Garo Hills.
Social organisations from Goalpara and Garo Hills have also joined in condemning the incident, advocating for compensation for the victims’ families.
