SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has allayed concerns about the potential impact on JN Stadium’s natural turf during the mega musical concert of legendary rock singer Bryan Adams in Shillong.
The rock singer is scheduled to perform at the venue on December 10.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that state-of-the –art technology would be used to protect the natural turf during the state’s biggest musical concert.
The natural turf atvJN Stadium garnered praise for its condition during the recent Durand Cup.
CM Sangma assured that special technology, used globally in football and cricket stadiums during large gatherings, events, or concerts, will be employed to safeguard the natural turf of the stadium.
“Technologies available today allow the entire natural turf to be covered by a protective platform, ensuring that people don’t step directly on the grass and damage it,” CM Sangma said.
He also stated that the government would ensure that the concert organizers adhere to the necessary technological standards to safeguard the turf from damage.
“The responsibility will be on the organizers to implement this platform, and we will double-check the technology to ensure it meets our standards before giving approval,” he said.

However, the CM pointed out that in the case of minor damage, the turf could be repaired within a week.
On the decision to host such events at the venue, the chief minister said, “The investments made in this infrastructure should be leveraged for various purposes to generate revenue and optimize the use of the space.”
