Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a new standard operating procedure to regulate the use of VIP beacons, flashers, sirens and tinted glasses in government vehicles.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the guidelines will specify which officials are authorised to use each category of equipment, a move aimed at preventing misuse.
The Cabinet also cleared the Additional Households Electrification proposal under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Sangma said many villages and homes left out during the 2011 census-based electrification drive will now be covered.
He noted that the Centre has sanctioned nearly Rs. 500 crore after the state requested inclusion of newly formed villages and additional households in 2022.

In another decision, the Cabinet approved the purchase of land to facilitate an exchange with Defence authorities for the expansion of Shillong airport.
Sangma said expanding the airport is crucial for accommodating larger aircraft and that tendering for the project is already underway.
The deputy chief minister in charge of transport has been tasked with continuing consultations with local stakeholders to ensure a smooth land exchange and acquisition process.
