Shillong: In a major operation in East Khasi Hills, vigilant troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya on Saturday thwarted a major smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills.
The operation resulted in the arrest of an Indian national and the confiscation of four mini-trucks carrying contraband worth Rs 28 lakh.
The seized items included zeera, liquor, tea, fish, dry fish, soap, garlic, panipuri, blankets and other goods intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh.

The arrested individual and confiscated goods were handed over to Customs authorities for further action.
This operation highlights the BSF personnel’s dedication to safeguarding the border and curbing illegal activities.
On January 5, BSF troops in Meghalaya successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border, seizing contraband items valued at over Rs 9.5 lakh.
The haul included garlic, cattle, and sugar, along with an Alto car used for transporting the smuggled goods.
A smuggler was also apprehended during the operation.
The successful operation underscores the relentless efforts of the security force and reaffirms its commitment to preventing unlawful crossings and safeguarding border security.

In another separate operation, vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya thwarted a smuggling bid along the Indo-Bangladesh border on January 3, seizing contraband items worth more than Rs 4.5 lakh, including sugar, garlic, blankets, liquor, and betel nut.
