Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya apprehended a Bangladeshi national and seized smuggled goods in two significant operations on September 23.
In the first operation, vigilant troops from the 1st Battalion BSF apprehended a Bangladeshi national near the International Border in the South West Khasi Hills district.
Acting on credible intelligence, the BSF conducted a special operation near Border Outpost Kanai and successfully apprehended Tonik Hajong, a 38-year-old resident of Netrakona district in Bangladesh.
Hajong was found in possession of Bangladeshi currency worth 2,37,500 Taka, which is believed to have been intended for illegal cross-border activities.
In a separate incident on the same day, the 4th Battalion BSF seized cosmetic items valued at Rs 15 lakh.
A BSF patrol team encountered a group of 4-5 individuals attempting to smuggle goods across the border. When challenged, the individuals abandoned their head loads, which contained cosmetic items, and fled into the nearby jungle.
The apprehended individual and the seized items were handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings. The cosmetic items were subsequently handed over to the customs office.
These successful operations highlight the BSF’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of India’s borders and preventing illegal activities.
The force’s vigilance and effective intelligence gathering have played a crucial role in thwarting smuggling attempts and ensuring national security.
