SHILLONG: The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has taken a significant stride towards sustainable infrastructure development by partnering with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
This collaboration aims to reduce the carbon footprint of road construction projects across the country.
The Headquarters Research & Development Establishment (HQ R&D Estt) in Shillong, a key research wing of the BRO, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Delhi to study and develop strategies to minimize carbon emissions during road construction.
The research project, which is expected to last 24 months, will culminate in the creation of a computer-based tool to assist agencies in planning low-carbon road infrastructure.
Rajeev Dua, Chief Engineer of HQ R&D Estt, said that the organization has signed an MoU with Prof. Hussain Kanchwala and Dr. Geetam Tiwari from IIT Delhi.
Emphasizing the importance of the initiative, Dua stated that the tool would be a valuable resource for road construction agencies nationwide once it is approved by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC).
