Shillong: BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai from South Shillong met with Dr. Sukanta Mazumdar, Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), to discuss crucial issues concerning Meghalaya’s District Councils.
During the meeting, Shullai pressed for the implementation of direct funding for the District Councils and requested financial assistance to be provided to them to enhance their functioning and development.
Shullai further raised concerns about several ongoing projects in the state that have been delayed or are pending, seeking the Union Minister’s intervention to ensure these projects receive the necessary attention and progress.
Additionally, the BJP MLA highlighted the importance of timely disbursement of scholarships to students, urging the Union Minister to ensure that these funds are released without unnecessary delays.
In a significant development, Shullai informed that Dr. Mazumdar is scheduled to visit Meghalaya once the district council elections have concluded.

The union minister will meet with the leaders of the District Councils to discuss pressing issues, address any concerns, and listen to legitimate demands from the local authorities.

The discussions underline Shullai’s ongoing efforts to advocate for better resources and support for the state’s local governance bodies and educational system.
