Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has officially submitted their nomination papers for the forthcoming Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections in Meghalaya.
Out of the fourteen individuals running, nine are from East Khasi Hills, with the remaining five hailing from Ri-Bhoi district.
The VPP’s nominees include Winston Tony Lyngdoh for Nongthymmai, Eddieson Kharumnuid for Mawlai, Danny Langstieh for Laban, Strongpillar Kharjana for Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Denzil Chen for Jaiaw, Lancaster Marbaniang for Mawphlang, Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait for Mylliem, Seibor Warbah for Mawryngkneng, Kitbor Syiem for Nongkrem, Mathew Makdoh for Nongpoh, Isynei Hinge for Umroi, Apkyrmen Lyngdoh Nonglait for Jirang, Banrikus Nongsteng for Umsning, and Kynjohlang Rangtong for Mawhati.
In an interview with the press, Aibandaplin emphasized the party’s dedication to maintaining a corruption-free government.
During the 2023 Assembly elections, she narrowly missed defeating the incumbent Congress MLA for Mylliem, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh. Lyngdoh, who also serves as the current Mylliem MDC, is not seeking re-election.
Another candidate, Langstieh informed that the VPP would soon reveal its electoral manifesto.
When asked about the adequacy of the current laws protecting the interests of the Khasi indigenous people, he explained that it would be difficult to comment without first securing a position on the council.
“We will be in a better position to speak once we are council members. However, should there be a need for changes, we are committed to addressing them,” Langstieh remarked.
A large turnout of VPP supporters gathered in Ri Bhoi to express their solidarity with the candidates during the nomination process.

The event was marked by participation from VPP leaders and members, all of whom showed confidence in the candidates’ ability to bring positive reforms to the administration.
Makdoh and Hinge emphasised that their primary goal in running for the MDC election is to introduce transparent governance and ethical politics in the KHADC, where the VPP has no representation, as the party was established only after the 2019 elections.
They reaffirmed their commitment to making governance more accessible to the people and addressing the concerns of their respective constituencies.
