Byrnihat: Meghalaya’s Jirang MDC Victor Ranee has been officially granted the Congress ticket to contest in the forthcoming district council elections.
Ranee, who recently left the National People’s Party (NPP), made the switch to the Congress in December after accusing local NPP leaders and the Jirang MLA of tarnishing his reputation.
According to Ranee, these leaders influenced the state-level NPP leadership to conspire against him, ultimately denying him a ticket to contest under the party’s banner.
Meanwhile, controversy has erupted in Umroi over the selection of Micky Dauglas Syiem as the Congress candidate for the MDC seat.
The decision has not been well-received by supporters of former MDC Albinus Lyngdoh, who were reportedly hoping for his renomination.
Syiem, a former member of the Umroi Constituency People’s Forum (UCPF), resigned from the forum on January 3 and joined the Congress shortly thereafter, securing the ticket for the upcoming elections.
The Congress released its second list of candidates for the district council elections on Saturday, featuring 16 names—11 for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and five for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
