SHILLONG: A dead body of a man was discovered in a hotel room at Hotel Assembly in Police Bazar in Shillong on Thursday.
Identified as Sijo Joseph (47), a resident of Beltola Road, Guwahati, his body was found by the police team from Sadar Police station.
According to police reports, the staff of hotel alerted authorities upon noticing that an occupant of a room had not emerged for over a day.
Responding to the call, a police team, accompanied by witnesses, forcibly entered the room.
Inside, they found the body of Sijo lying motionless on the bed.
Preliminary investigations suggest the cause of death to be an overdose of sedatives and anti-depressants, although no evidence of foul play has been detected.
Speaking on the matter, SP Rituraj Raj Ravi told a local news portal that the body has been sent for post mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Efforts are underway to inform the family of the deceased, and further inquiries into the incident are ongoing, as confirmed by the police authorities.
