Mairang: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend by slitting her throat in front of her father in Meghalaya’s Eastern West Khasi Hills district, police reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening in Mairang Pyndengumiong village when the victim, Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew, and her father were at a local market selling farm produce.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accused confronted the woman, leading to an argument.
“During the altercation, the man suddenly attacked the woman, slitting her throat,” a senior police officer stated.
The victim was rushed to Mairang Civil Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Locals apprehended the accused as he attempted to flee the scene and handed him over to the police.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact motive for the crime.
Preliminary findings suggest a personal dispute, with the victim’s father alleging that the man was enraged because his daughter wanted to end their relationship.

“We are exploring all possible angles,” the police officer added.
