GUWAHATI: Lt General Vikas Lakhera has been appointed as the new Director General of Assam Rifles.
Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, ex-IG (North) of Assam Rifles, will now be the new Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR). He will be posted in Shillong.
Recently he was promoted from Major General rank to Lt General and was posted to army headquarters for some time.

Lt Gen Lakhera will be taking over his new assignment by replacing outgoing DGAR Lt. General PC Nair, who is retiring on July 31.
Major General Lakhera assumed the command of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) on January 5, 2022. He moved out earlier this year on promotion.
The Assam Rifles is a paramilitary force under the Union Home Ministry but its operational activities and administration are supervised by top Indian Army Generals.
