Shillong: Lt Gen KC Panchanathan, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 101 Area was cremated on Thursday with full military honours at the Happy Valley Crematorium in Shillong.
Wreath laying ceremony was attended by a large no of military, Police, CAPF and civil officials who paid their last respects to the late General.
Wreath on behalf of Meghalaya government was laid by Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, minister of Public Health Engineering and on behalf of Assam government by Chandra Mohan Patowary, minister of Environment & Forest.
Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff.
General Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Command, Lt Gen RP Kalita, and Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal SP Dharkar were present at the solemn occasion.
The Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen PC Nair and senior officers from BSF, CRPF, Assam and Meghalaya Police and the IB also laid wreaths.
Lt Gen KC Panchanathan passed away on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack.
