Shillong: A rare and light-hearted moment played out in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Tuesday when Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma rose to respond to a question raised by Gambegre MLA Dr Mehtab Chandee Sangma, who is also his wife.
The moment unfolded during Question Hour when Dr. Mehtab Chandee Sangma raised a series of queries related to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, focusing on veterinary healthcare services, livestock treatment facilities and the state of veterinary education infrastructure in Meghalaya.
As the chief minister stood up to reply in his official capacity, members across the House were seen smiling, briefly easing the otherwise formal atmosphere of the Assembly proceedings.
Despite the light moment, the discussion itself remained focused on substantive policy issues, including veterinary service delivery, livestock healthcare systems and the strengthening of institutional support for animal husbandry in the state.

One user joked, “Maybe he just wanted to win an argument outside the home,” while another wrote, “NPP couple dominating the party,” referring to the prominent political presence of the husband-wife duo within the National People’s Party.
Several other users described the moment as “sweet” and “refreshing,” calling it a rare glimpse of personal dynamics within the otherwise serious setting of legislative proceedings, as the video and images from the Assembly session circulated online.
