New Delhi: A video capturing Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam trekking through the picturesque forests of Meghalaya has gone viral, believed to be the final moments before Raja was allegedly murdered in a chilling conspiracy involving his wife and her lover.
The footage, filmed inadvertently by travel vlogger Devender Singh on May 23 during a visit to the Double-Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat village, has captivated social media, drawing millions of views and stirring intense public reactions.
Singh shared the video on Instagram, calling it “probably the last footage of the Indore couple.”
“I had visited the Double-Decker Root Bridge on May 23 and was reviewing my footage yesterday when I noticed the couple,” Singh wrote in his post.
“It was around 9:45 a.m.—we were trekking down while they were heading up after spending the night in Nongriat. Sonam wore the same white shirt later found near Raja’s body. It’s heartbreaking to see Raja in the video, unaware of what lay ahead.”
The clip shows Sonam walking ahead with a polythene bag, presumably holding a raincoat, while Raja follows with most of their belongings.
Singh urged social media users to share the video widely, hoping it could aid the Meghalaya Police investigation.
Social media has erupted with emotional responses. “Her expression isn’t fear—it’s calculation,” commented one user.
“She knew this footage might come back someday.” Another added, “Raja looked so trusting, carrying the bags and following her. It’s chilling to think of the betrayal.”
Raja and Sonam had checked out of Shipra Homestay early on May 23 before beginning their trek. Later that day, Raja was allegedly pushed into a 1,000-foot gorge.
His body was discovered on June 2 after an exhaustive search.
The couple, married on May 11, had travelled to Meghalaya on May 21 for their honeymoon.

Their disappearance from Sohra (Cherrapunji) on May 23 sparked an investigation that led to Sonam’s arrest a week later in Uttar Pradesh.
During questioning, Sonam confessed to conspiring with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to murder Raja.
She also named accomplices Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput, all of whom are now in police custody.
This horrifying case, marked by betrayal and cold calculation, has shocked the nation.
