SHILLONG: Instances of violence against non-tribals in Meghalaya have surged once again, with another death reported in the state on Wednesday.
Arjun Ray (52), a labourer, fell victim to an attack by miscreants at Mawlai Mawroh, just fifteen days after the brutal murders of two individuals in East Khasi Hill’s Ichamati.
According to East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi, the assault occurred around 11:15 am on April 10, when unidentified assailants targeted three labourers working at an under-construction site.
Ray sustained severe injuries in the attack and was rushed to NEIGRIHMS hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators, as confirmed by the police to the press.
Ray’s tragic demise marks the third death of non-tribals in the district within a span of fifteen days.
The earlier incident on March 27 saw the brutal killings of Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta in Ichamati, under Shella constituency, East Khasi Hills.
Allegedly, the death occurred post an anti-CAA protest in the area organised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU).
Following the Ichamati incident, the police arrested two KSU members, Shamborlang Shati and Mesadapbor Skhembil, both aged 26, on April 2.

The arrests sparked protests in various parts of the state, including Sohra, where tensions escalated as demonstrators, including KSU members and villagers from Laitkynsew nearby areas, attempted to storm the Sohra police station.
Demands for the release of the arrested KSU members echoed through the protests, with family members and union leaders joining the outcry.
The incident underscores the urgent need for measures to address communal harmony and ensure the safety and security of all residents, regardless of ethnic backgrounds.
