Shillong: The Centre has appointed Justice Revati Mohite Dere, currently a judge of the Bombay High Court, as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Dere will assume charge following the retirement of the present Chief Justice, Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who is due to demit office on January 9.
Justice Soumen Sen, who is currently serving at the Meghalaya High Court, has been transferred to the Kerala High Court as part of the latest round of judicial postings.
The transfer of Justice Sen was notified by the Union government on Thursday, based on recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium at its meeting held on December 18, 2025.
The appointment of Justice Dere was confirmed by Union Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal through a post on social media platform X.

At present, Justice Dere is the second senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court.
Born in Pune, she pursued her legal education at Symbiosis Law College and went on to build a distinguished career at the Bombay High Court, where she practised extensively. She also served as a public prosecutor for the Maharashtra government.
Justice Dere was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013 and was elevated as a permanent judge in 2016.
Her appointment marks a new chapter for the Meghalaya High Court as it prepares for a change in leadership.
