Shillong: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Shillong Circle, along with the JSU Central Body, has urged the Meghalaya government to temporarily shut down internet services during government job examination hours to curb cheating and malpractices.
In a letter addressed to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Prestone Tynsong, the JSU highlighted concerns raised by the public regarding instances of malpractice facilitated by mobile phones and internet access during recruitment exams.
The union emphasised that technological advancements, particularly the use of AI-powered tools, have made it easier for candidates to engage in unfair practices, compromising the integrity of the examination process.
The JSU proposed several measures to ensure fairness, including the suspension of internet services during examination hours, strict frisking of candidates at entry points, and the installation of CCTV cameras in examination halls to ensure transparency.
They also suggested extending surveillance to interview rounds to enhance public trust in the recruitment process.
