New Delhi: The 14th edition of the Indo-Thai joint military exercise ‘Maitree’ is currently underway at the Joint Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya.
The two-week exercise, being held from September 1 to 14, aims to enhance interoperability and strengthen military cooperation between the two nations.
According to the Defence Ministry, the drills will focus on company-level counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban terrain under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The exercise will conclude with a 48-hour validation drill simulating realistic operational scenarios.
The Indian Army contingent, comprising 120 personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, is participating alongside 53 soldiers from the Royal Thai Army’s 1st Infantry Battalion, 14th Infantry Brigade.
Instituted in 2006 as part of the military-to-military exchange programme, ‘Maitree’ includes joint tactical drills, operational planning, special arms training, physical fitness, and raiding operations.
The 13th edition was hosted last year at Fort Vachiraprakan in Thailand’s Tak Province.
