SHILLONG: The one-man inquiry commission led by Justice (retired) BP Katakey has submitted its 23rd and 24th interim reports to the Meghalaya High Court concerning the issue of illegal coal mining in the state.
The court was informed that a significant amount of coal remains in East Jaintia Hills and has not been transported to the designated depot.
Advocate General Amit Kumar clarified that some of this coal may be under the custody of the Judicial Magistrate, seized under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
The respondents have been directed by the Meghalaya High Court to file their comments on the 23rd interim report and provide photographs of the location where the coal is stored.
