SHILLONG: Excitement surged through the crowd gathered at the State Central Library as the inaugural Premier Gaming Festival, aptly titled “Odyssey,” kicked off in Shillong on Friday.
The extravaganza, dedicated to celebrating the booming gaming industry, commenced with a spectacular inauguration setting the stage for two days of electrifying gaming action.
“Odyssey” is a collaborative effort between Mutation eSports and the Meghalaya government, presenting an immersive experience for gaming enthusiasts.
The festival promises a dynamic blend of national and international eSports players engaging in fierce battles on popular platforms such as Call of Duty: Mobile.
Additionally, attendees can explore various gaming arenas, stalls, and a myriad of activities tailored to cater to the diverse gaming community.
The festival has successfully drawn participation from eight teams, including four from different corners of India.
Adding an international flair to the competition, teams from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore have also eagerly joined the fray, injecting a rich dose of global diversity into the gaming spectacle.
The stakes are high, with an impressive Rs 40 lakhs worth of prizes awaiting the triumphant gamers.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh, a fervent advocate of the gaming sector, graced the occasion with his presence and officially inaugurated the gaming extravaganza.
Minister Lyngdoh’s commitment to the gaming industry shone through as he emphasised the significant growth and opportunities it offers to the youth, positioning gaming as a serious and competitive field for the younger generation.
Lyngdoh also highlighted the festival’s role in providing a robust platform for gamers to showcase their skills while fostering healthy competition within a collaborative environment.
“Odyssey” promises to be a landmark event not only for the gaming community but also for the recognition and celebration of the thriving gaming industry in the Northeast.
