Shillong: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, Meghalaya, on Saturday held the convocation ceremony of its inaugural Management Essentials 2024 course.
Organised under the MILVEST initiative, the event celebrated the accomplishments of participants from the Indian Armed Forces community, including serving and retired personnel, their spouses, and adult children.
Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Eastern Air Command, officiated the ceremony and presented certificates to the graduates.
The Management Essentials 2024 course, part of MILVEST (Military Veterans Skilling and Transformation), aims to facilitate seamless career transitions for the armed forces community into corporate or civil society roles.
The programme provides comprehensive training in management and leadership, addressing the specific needs of military personnel as they adapt to civilian professions.
In collaboration with IIM Shillong, MILVEST—an initiative by the Sambhav Kadam Foundation—delivers high-quality education with unmatched flexibility.
The programme includes online webinars, recorded sessions, pre-reads, quizzes, and assignments, making it accessible and practical for participants.
Beyond academics, participants engaged in professional enrichment activities such as industry visits and an HR seminar featuring corporate leaders.
These initiatives offered real-world insights, broadening their understanding and sharpening their professional skills.
Participants praised the program’s structured approach and affordability, which ensured accessibility for the armed forces community.

The event also unveiled MILVEST 2025, an enhanced version of the program.
It will include new components such as Corporate and Industry Orientation (CIO) and specialised short-term courses in areas like strategic HR, marketing, supply chain analytics, and entrepreneurship.
Captain (IN) Vinay Singh, the founder of MILVEST, highlighted the initiative’s importance for the 60,000 personnel retiring from the armed forces annually.
He expressed gratitude to the Eastern Air Command and IIM Shillong for their continued support, which ensured the convocation’s success.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to empowering veterans and their families, preparing them for leadership and innovation in their post-military careers.
