Shillong: Meghalaya Government on Saturday appointed Idashisha Nongrang as the new Director General of Police (DGP).
Nongrang, a 1992-batch IPS officer, will take over charge of DGP of Meghalaya Police on May 20 as LR Bishnoi is going to retire on May 19.
Cyril V.D. Diengdoh, Secretary of the Home (Police) Department issued the notification on Saturday on the appointment of the new DGP of Meghalaya.
From amongst the empanelled list of IPS Officers duly recommended by the Empanelment Committee of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Meghalaya Government appointed Idashisha Nongrang as the new DGP.
The UPSC had recommended three names- Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch) RP Meena (1993) and Deepak Kumar (1994) for appointment.
The appointment of Nongrang comes after two senior IPS officers of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre – GP Singh (1991 batch) and Harmeet Singh (1992) expressed their unwillingness to take up as the DGP of Meghalaya.
Nongrang, who served a long tenure with the Intelligence Bureau (IB), is now serving as the Director General of Civil Defence & Home Guard, Meghalaya.
