SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has urged the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH) to reserve seats for the indigenous youths of Meghalaya from the session of 2024.
In a letter to the Director of NEIAH, HYC stated that the institute started the MD (Hom) courses in the year 2023 with a total number of 8 seats in different subjects.
Out of these 8 seats, 4 seats are for All India Quota and 4 seats are for Open North East category seats, of which 2 seats are reserved for students who graduated in BHMS from NEIAH and 2 seats are reserved for students having North Eastern Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC).
However, no seat(s) is/are reserved specifically for the local indigenous youth of Meghalaya in the said course as is being done with regard to admission for BAMS and BHMS courses, the letter stated.
“ We demand that the institute should take appropriate action or steps to reserve seats for the local indigenous youths of Meghalaya from the session 2024 onwards,” HYC president Roykupar Synrem said.
He also urged the authorities concerned to acknowledge the institute’s location in Meghalaya’s tribal area and its primary purpose of serving the people of the region.
He said, “Opportunities should be given to the local indigenous population to get admitted into the different courses offered by the institute. We hope and urge you, as the head of the institute, to consider our just and reasonable demands for the welfare of our youths and the state as a whole.”
