Shillong: A Meghalaya court on Saturday remanded Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to 13 days of judicial custody in connection with the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.
Police custody for the duo, who are the prime suspects in the case, ended on Saturday.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the murder did not seek an extension of their custody, confirmed Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda.
“The accused have been placed in judicial custody for 13 days. No further extension of police custody was requested,” Chanda stated.
The case began when Raja Raghuvanshi, who had travelled to Meghalaya with his wife, Sonam, for their honeymoon, went missing in the Sohra area on May 23.
His body, in a highly decomposed state, was discovered in a gorge near a waterfall on June 2, triggering a nationwide outcry.
Raja, a businessman from Indore, had married Sonam on May 11.
The couple left for their honeymoon on May 20, but just three days later, Raja vanished.
