Resubelpara (Meghalaya): In a move aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting rural farmers, the CM FARM+ Inputs Distribution Programme was conducted on Tuesday at the Multi Facility Hall in Bakrapara, Resubelpara.

Organised by the District Horticulture Office, the event focused on the distribution of High Yielding Variety (HYV) crop saplings and essential farming inputs to beneficiaries under the horticulture sector.

The initiative is part of the broader CM FARM+ scheme launched by the Meghalaya government to promote scientific farming, improve crop quality, and increase farmers’ income across the state.

Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Resubelpara MLA, Timothy D Shira, attended the programme as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the importance of adopting scientific methods in horticulture to ensure better yields and sustainable farming practices.

He noted that the CM FARM+ initiative not only provides agricultural inputs but also extends training, technical support, and guidance to farmers.

“This programme will empower rural farmers, improve their livelihood, and generate employment within farming communities,” Shira said, urging beneficiaries to adhere to proper plantation guidelines to maximise success and impact.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, YW Momin, also addressed the participants, advising farmers to maintain high standards in plantation practices.

She highlighted that beneficiaries who demonstrate good survival rates of their crops would be eligible for further financial support, including subsidies and grants, along with access to market linkages.

Assistant Director of Horticulture, Salma G Momin, outlined the programme’s broader objectives.

She informed that the state government has allocated Rs. 300 crore for the promotion of high-value crop plantations across 10,000 hectares in Meghalaya under the CM FARM+ mission.

Crops identified for this initiative include vanilla, avocado, black pepper, cocoa, cinnamon, and cardamom.

These crops, she explained, are well-suited for intercropping in shaded and forested areas, making them ideal for environmentally sustainable cultivation that preserves natural ecosystems.

Terming CM FARM+ as one of the most promising models of sustainable agriculture, she said the programme aligns productivity with conservation while significantly boosting farmers’ incomes.

As part of the event, Deputy Speaker Shira distributed vanilla and black pepper saplings, among other high-value crops, to selected beneficiaries.
