Jowai: Meghalaya police seized heroin valued at around Rs. 2.5 crore and arrested two men from Manipur during an anti-narcotics operation in West Jaintia Hills district, officials said on Monday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of West Jaintia Hills Police and the state Anti-Narcotic Task Force intercepted a Jowai-bound vehicle near Phramer Mer traffic cell late Sunday night.
The vehicle, which had originated from Khliehriat, was searched and 50 soap boxes containing 512.63 grams of heroin were recovered, Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad said.
The arrested individuals were identified as Chuchung Serto of Kangpokpi district and Thanggin Towthang of Churachandpur district in Manipur.

Apart from the drugs, police also seized Rs. 6,775 in Indian currency, foreign banknotes—including 3,000 Korean Won, 500 Kazakhstani Tenge and 10 Myanmar Kyat—and two mobile phones.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the supply chain and investigate possible cross-border connections.
Authorities have appealed to the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
