Shillong: Lt Gen K C Panchanathan, the general officer commanding (GOC) of Indian Army’s 101 Area died due a heart attack.
According to Army officials, Lt Gen Pachanathan complained about chest pain on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong.
Doctors at NEIGRIHMS declared Lt Gen K C Panchanathan dead at around 830 pm. Lt Gen Panchanathan was 57 year old.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted: “The very jovial and energetic Lt Gen K C Panchanathan, GOC 101 Area left for his heavenly abode last night. Deeply saddened by his untimely demise. He would often visit me with suggestions on how @easterncomd can strengthen their relationship with the people of the NE.”

Even Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu has also offered his condolences on the early demise of the Army officer.

A highly decorated officer of Madras Sappers, Lt Gen He had returned to Shillong on December 3 after attending Hornbill Festival in Nagaland.
