Shillong: The Me’gong Festival 2024, a vibrant celebration of Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage, is set to feature former Bollywood actress Udita Goswami. She will take centre stage as a DJ, adding to the festival’s exciting lineup of music, art, and performances.
The festival holds special significance for Udita as it will be held in her mother’s homeland.
The festival, slated for November 29 and 30, will be held at Baljek Airport, located in the picturesque village of Jengjal in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district.
Udita was away from the limelight for some years and is now making a comeback not as an actress but as a DJ. Born to a family with roots in Meghalaya, Udita is eager to reconnect with her heritage and celebrate the cultural vibrancy of the region.
She started her career as a model and later began acting in Hindi films. The Bollywood actress was seen in films like Paap, Aksar and Zeher. She’s now a full-time deejay where she has found her true calling. This festival will offer her a unique opportunity to showcase her talents in a new way. Her decision to become a DJ reflects her love for music and her desire to explore new creative avenues.
Organized by the Meghalaya Tourism Department, the Me’gong festival promises a delightful celebration of fun activities and performances. The name “Me’Gong” comes from a flower that grows in abundance in the Garo Hills.
The festival offers the Garo people an opportunity to honour their heritage, while also inviting tourists to experience the warm hospitality of the Garo Hills. It serves as a platform to promote tourism within the state of Meghalaya.
The 2-day fiesta will offer an array of music, cultural activities, and adventure experiences.
This year, Udita’s performance as a DJ is expected to bring a fresh, youthful energy to the festival. Known for her infectious energy and charisma, she is expected to captivate the audience with her music and blend of electronic sounds.
The festival will offer her the opportunity to explore the region’s traditional music and art forms, and contribute to the growing cultural landscape of Meghalaya.
Music enthusiasts can look forward to performances by Meghalaya-based groups Da Suraka, Haystack Ladies, and Summersalt, who will bring their unique blend of folk fusion to the stage.
