Ex-servicemen rally held in Shillong to strengthen ties with veterans and their families

The event saw the participation of over 300 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, war widows, and their families from across Meghalaya

SHILLONG: An Ex-Servicemen Rally was organised by the 58 GTC under the auspices of Headquarters 101 Area at Happy Valley, Shillong on December 17.

The event saw the participation of over 300 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, war widows, and their families from across Meghalaya.

The rally aimed to reinforce the bond between the Indian Army, veterans, their dependents, and the community at large.

The rally was graced by several prominent figures, including the Governor of Meghalaya, C H Vijayashankar; Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area; and Air Marshal IS Walia, AVSM, VM, Senior Air Staff Officer, Eastern Air Command.

The dignitaries took time to personally interact with Veer Naris, Ex-Servicemen, and their families, showing their unwavering support for the welfare of these individuals and their dependents.

Governor Vijayashankar highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to ensure quality healthcare and to address any issues faced by Veer Naris and veterans, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their well-being.

During the rally, financial assistance of ₹20,000 was provided to Silia Mary Kharbudnah.

Additionally, sixty Veer Naris, Ex-Servicemen, and widows were felicitated in recognition of their service.

The event also featured a variety of stalls offering essential services such as pension assistance, documentation support, welfare schemes, medical benefits, banking services, and CSD items.

Representatives from the Rajya Sainik Board, the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme, Record Offices, and banks like State Bank of India and ICICI Bank were on hand to assist attendees.

These stalls offered veterans and their families an opportunity to directly engage with both military and civil authorities to resolve any outstanding concerns.

The state government also set up stalls to showcase the CM Elevate and Prime initiatives.

The rally concluded with all attendees expressing their deep gratitude, reassured by the Indian Army and the state government’s continued commitment to their welfare.
