SHILLONG: Former IPS officer Anand Mishra, renowned for his courageous efforts against the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), has entered the political arena by declaring his candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Dispelling all speculation, Mishra took to social media on Sunday to confirm his intention to contest from the 33-Buxar LS Seat in Bihar.
In a video message posted on this social media handle, he invited the public to join him in Buxar on May 7, the day of his nomination filing.
“We are Filing Nomination for Lok Sabha Election – 2024 from 33-BUXAR LS Seat (Bihar) on 7th May, 2024. Everyone is cordially invited on 07-05-2024 @ 10 AM to Buxar, Bihar please,” Mishra wrote on his social media handle.
Highlighting his dedication to serving the people of Buxar and combating corruption, Mishra asserted that his campaign represents the collective aspirations of the constituency, transcending party lines.
During his tenure in Meghalaya, Mishra faced challenges and controversies, including allegations of manhandling a civilian and assaulting a student leader and a lawyer in Baghmara, South Garo Hills.
Later, he served as the Superintendent of Police in various districts of Assam, including Charaideo, Dhubri, Nagaon, and North Lakhimpur.
Following his resignation from the IPS in December 2023, Mishra expressed a desire to pursue social services and personal goals aligned with freedom and independence.
Initially eyeing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, Mishra’s unexpected denial led him to change his strategy, opting to run as an independent candidate from his home state of Bihar.
In recent months, Mishra has tirelessly engaged in grassroots-level interactions across the constituency, gaining insights into local issues and crafting a people-centric agenda for his electoral bid.
