Elderly man dies after being run over by Assam Rifles convoy vehicle in Meghalaya

The incident took place around 10:30 am when the elderly man, identified as Jonga Bahadur, was crossing the road on his bicycle

Shillong: A 93-year-old milkman was run over by a vehicle in an Assam Rifles convoy, leading to his death in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.

According to police reports, the incident took place around 10:30 am when the elderly man, identified as Jonga Bahadur, was crossing the road on his bicycle, carrying a container of milk.

At the time, an Assam Rifles convoy, which was en route to Guwahati, was passing through the area. Bahadur was struck by the third vehicle in the convoy.

Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh confirmed the details of the accident, stating that the impact caused severe injuries to the elderly man.

Bahadur was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Nongpoh for emergency treatment.

However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

As of now, the Assam Rifles authorities could not be contacted to for comment regarding the incident.
