SHILLONG: The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) is emerging as the frontrunner in the Shillong constituency, according to the Election Commission’s latest updates on Tuesday morning.
VPP candidate Ricky AJ Syngkon has taken the lead in the Shillong seat, surpassing three-term Congress MP Vincent H Pala.
At the third spot is NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh.
“We believe in hard work and have shared with the people the party’s vision and principles. We are confident that the people of Shillong will support us. The early trends indicating our lead are a manifestation of the positive outcomes to come,” Syngkon told the press on Tuesday morning.
Earlier on Monday, the VPP announced plans for a victory procession on Tuesday, contingent upon Syngkon’s success in securing the coveted Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
VPP spokesperson, Batskhem Myrboh, highlighted the party’s intention to avoid causing inconvenience to the public, stating, “We will not take out any procession towards the city as it might lead to traffic jams and cause inconvenience to the public.”
In response, Returning Officer of the Shillong Parliamentary seat, SC Sadhu, confirmed that as of Monday, there had been no formal communication from any political party regarding their victory procession route.
He highlighted that political parties are expected to inform the district administration about their planned route on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, in the Tura seat in Meghalaya, Congress is leading, with candidate Saleng Sangma surpassing NPP MP Agatha Sangma, sister of CM Conrad K Sangma.
