Resubelpara: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of North Garo Hills, Meghalaya, on Friday conducted an awareness rally at Mendipathar to spread awareness about the prevention of child marriage under the NALSA ASHA SOP and the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat initiative.
The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abhishek Saini.

Participants included members of the Royal Northern Riders, students and teachers from various schools, and officials from the DLSA, Police Department, and the Social Welfare Department’s Child Protection Unit.
Before the rally began, District & Sessions Judge Shri Balaram Joshi addressed the gathering, outlining the legal consequences of child marriage. He also informed attendees about the legally prescribed age of marriage and stressed the shared responsibility of the community in preventing the practice.
The rally started from the premises of the District & Sessions Court in Mendipathar and concluded at the Dilma Higher Secondary School field. Participants carried placards and banners bearing messages such as “Say No to Child Marriage,” “Let Children Dream, Not Marry,” and “Child Marriage is a Crime,” raising awareness and advocating for the protection of children’s rights.

The initiative sought to sensitise the public, foster community involvement, and strengthen ongoing efforts to eliminate child marriage in the district.
