Ampati (Meghalaya): In a move aimed at bridging the digital divide and enhancing access to quality education in rural Meghalaya, a Digital Learning Hub was inaugurated on Thursday at Mellim Higher Secondary School in South West Garo Hills district.

The facility, set up under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of GHE (Global Human Expedition) in collaboration with the PA Sangma Foundation, was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak and Rerapara Block Development Officer (BDO) Armand Ch Momin.

Mellim HS School is the first institution in the district to benefit from the initiative.

The Hub has been equipped with 10 computers preloaded with educational videos and study materials that function offline, eliminating dependence on internet connectivity.

To address frequent power disruptions in the area, a solar UPS system has been installed, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to all devices.

Speaking at the event, DC Hema Nayak encouraged students to fully utilise the facility to improve their academic performance and cultivate a scientific mindset.

She lauded the initiative as a milestone for the school and a step forward for rural education in the region.

BDO Armand Ch Momin expressed satisfaction over the recent developmental strides in the area and called the learning hub a prime example.

He urged teachers to hold weekend sessions to help students unfamiliar with computers adapt to the new learning tools.

With the launch of the Digital Learning Hub, students in Mellim and nearby areas are expected to gain exposure to enhanced learning opportunities, bringing them closer in line with their peers across the state.
