Shillong: The Commissionerate of Customs, NER, Shillong, has successfully seized and destroyed narcotics worth over Rs. 191 crore in separate operations across the region.
In a significant operation, Customs officers from HQ Preventive, Customs, NER, Shillong, in collaboration with CPF Silchar, intercepted two scooters at Rangirkhari Point on Sonai-Silchar Road, Assam, on January 26.
During a detailed search, they discovered six polythene-wrapped packages concealed inside each vehicle.
The substances inside were confirmed to be methamphetamine, weighing a total of 12 kg and valued at approximately Rs. 12 crore.
The vehicles were seized, and two individuals were apprehended under the NDPS Act, 1985. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In another major move, Customs officials carried out a large-scale drug destruction operation across several locations, including Shillong, Guwahati, Imphal, Dimapur, and Karimganj.
The drugs destroyed included 15.90 kg of heroin, 92.776 kg of methamphetamine tablets, 355.40 grams of cocaine, and 1,567.161 kg of ganja.
The total value of the seized drugs amounted to Rs. 191.328 crore.
The drugs were disposed of in a secure and environmentally responsible manner to permanently eliminate these harmful substances from circulation.

Customs continues its commitment to fighting all forms of cross-border crime, including the smuggling of narcotics, gold, wildlife articles, fake currency, and tackling trade-based money laundering.
